Setting of Venice Stone Slabs at Clare Island Community Centre

Please join the Curatorial Team of 'In Search of Hy-Brasil' - Ireland at Venice Architecture Biennale 2023 as part of Architecture at the Edge Festival 2026 with the support of The Arts Council of Ireland and Mayo County Council.

The team will inaugurate the installation of three carved limestone slabs featuring the topographical relief of Clare Island, Skellig Michael and Inis Meáin - each of 1800mm x 900mm x 300mm that formed an integral element of the Irish pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2023. The stones are being gifted are been gifted to Cliara Development Company for relocation to a raised public grassed area fronting the community centre with a view to Clew Bay.

A five metre diameter circular bed of rounded beach stone from the nearby beach will form textured contrast to the three limestone slabs. A perimeter ring of angular beach stones will hold the rounded bed of stones in place.

The proposed works above received a Section 5 Exempted Development Certificate from the Planning Office in Mayo County Council.

In 2023, Ireland was represented by In Search of Hy-Brasil curated by a team of five architects: Peter Carroll, Peter Cody, Elizabeth Hatz, Mary Laheen and Joseph Mackey.
