Architect led Tour with Cillian Briody Studio on the adaptation of an existing masonry structure at 11 Peter Street, Westport that negotiates the level change between street and garden.
Join us for a talk on the adaptation of a 1920s masonry dwelling in the centre of Westport, with a new cast in-situ concrete and steel extension negotiating the change in level between the street and the garden.
The project was developed through physical model-making, drawing and digital modelling. The models became a means of testing the relationship between the existing stone building, the new structure and the changing levels of the site. Working physically allowed the form, proportions, openings and connections between old and new to be considered through direct engagement with space and material. The resulting intervention seeks to add to the existing building rather than compete with it, creating a contemporary home that is rooted in the character, scale and particular conditions of Westport.
