Join us for a discussion on the history of the Heinrich Böll cottage, the residencies, how it developed and is managed by a community company. Further to the recent exhibition Fisherwoman, Fisherwoman - Camille Souter & Alberta White at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, we invite you to continue the conversation at Camille Souter’s traditional vernacular cottage and studio which has been recently purchased to discuss ways of approaching its development in a sensitive manner and how it might be managed as an artist’s residency. Her home is one of the oldest and continuously inhabited cottages in Dooagh and her studio is contained within the curtilage of an adjacent cottage. These structures are among the last remaining, dating to the early twentieth century.

The Henrich Böll Association has supported residencies at the Heinrich Böll Cottage Dugort on Achill Island since the 1990s and has launched a campaign to raise funds for the renovation of Camille Souter's home and studio, with a proposal to establish The Camille Souter Artists Residency, in her memory where professional artists will be invited to live and work, with financial support for a given period of time.
