Galway Courthouse

  • Galway Courthouse Courthouse Square Galway City GPS: 53°21'13.9"N 9°09'36.4"W (map)

The Galway Courthouse tour consists of a brief history of Galway, Ireland and Europe at the start of the 19th century. It will then focus on the construction of the courthouse (completed in 1815), the Town Hall Theatre and the Salmon Weir Bridge. The talk will also focus on the construction and destruction of the former Galway town and county goals, and their replacement with Galway Cathedral. There will be a walking tour of the courthouse interior, including the courtrooms and the cells in the basement, as well as the judge’s chambers, which have a wonderful view back towards the cathedral.
