Join us for a talk at Rosserk Abbey & Moyne Abbey with Conservation Architect Pat Ruane as part of the Architecture at the Edge festival of related events that will run in parallel with the Mayo Atlas Work by Aidan Conway Exhibition at the Printworks Gallery, Galway.
Coinciding with the Mayo Atlas Work by Aidan Conway Exhibition at the Printworks Gallery, Galway, Architecture at the Edge with Mayo County Council invites you to a site visit commencing at Rosserk Abbey with Conservation Architect Pat Ruane. Moyne Abbey is 15th century Franciscan friary in North Mayo it was founded and developed in the mid 1400’s and operated until it was burned in 1590. The study focuses on its continuous development and adaptation over this relatively short livespan and resultant details and elements. As a point of comparison and to help position it within the abbey typology we will commence our visit at Rosserk Abbey.
Located along the River Moy, Rosserk Abbey is a compact friary of the Third Order Franciscans, founded around 1440 by a member of the Joyce family. It is just 4km from Killala, County Mayo.
The site is located a short walk from the carpark across rough terrain. There is a stile (a passage over a fence via steps and a narrow gap) that might prove difficult to those with mobility issues.
