In mid-march, when the country entered lockdown, photographer Emilija Jefremova decided to take distant portraits of people outside their houses or wherever their self-isolation is happening with the zoom lens that keeps a safe distance away from the person.

The resulting ‘self-isolation portraits’ captured the lockdown experience. The purpose of this project was to show it’s not all doom and gloom during these life-changing and interesting times.

Emilija is a Galway based photographer and camera operator that likes to put a personal and unique twist on every shot. Originally from Lithuania, she made the west of Ireland her home for almost 15 years ago and keep discovering the beauty of it through a lens. Photography has a very important place in my life and heart as it is my full-time job and a full-time passion that only grows with each click.

‘Im interested to see and hear what new hobbies or books or projects people took up in the last few weeks’ says Emilija. ‘ Social distancing is crucial right now, but I really hope we will all stay connected and close more than ever, sharing our stories and spending more time for ourselves.’
